  • New Wound Care Center

    March 01, 2010

We are pleased to announce the addition of an important new service for the community: our Outpatient Wound Care Center. Opening on March 9, 2010, the Center brings new hope for patients with wounds that will not heal.

The specially trained staff, under the direction of Sara Barrett, Program Director, will be dedicated to providing comprehensive treatment using the most technologically advanced wound care therapy. In addition, they will provide valuable education to patients and caregivers to assist with problem wound management. Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is used for problem wounds that meet specific criteria, and it is expected that 10 percent of the wound care cases will meet those criteria.

We are very excited about our latest addition because it is part of our goal to provide a complete system of medical and professional care to our patients – a true continuum of patient care.

  • Union Hospital is now a Primary stroke Center

    November 04, 2009

Union Hospital recently received designation as a Primary Stroke Center from the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Management Systems (MIEMMS). We are among 34 Maryland hospitals to receive this designation. This designation demonstrates our commitment to meet the emergent needs of stroke patients through high-quality care and clinical excellence delivered by a comprehensive team of health care providers.

The Hospital earned MIEMMS recognition by demonstrating through an extensive application process and on-site visit that we have measures in place that allow for a more streamlined approach to caring for stroke patients. We have a multidisciplinary Stroke Team including, the emergency department, imaging, information services, laboratory, nursing, and pharmacy who follow best practice guidelines, which ensure consistency, quality, and efficiency for all of our patients.

Congratulations and thank you to the members of the Stroke Team for their hard work and dedication to demonstrate that we have taken important measures to support and sustain our commitment to Primary Stroke designation and possess the necessary facility, equipment and staffing resources as required by Maryland Primary Stroke Center standards.
