Union Hospital will host an Exploring Post, beginning September 29, 2011 with an Open House at 7 pm in Meeting Rooms 1 & 2. The Open House will offer hands-on exhibits with our imaging, lab and infection control departments. An informative video, opportunity for students to sign-up for the Post, a Q & A session, as well as refreshments will be provided. Area high school students and parents are encouraged to attend.

The Open House will kick-off a series of health care education events geared toward providing high school students with insight into health care careers. Students will have the opportunity to learn more about the health care services that the hospital offers by participating in hands-on activities, like learning the precautions to take when encountering infection, touring the lab or performing ultrasounds on Union Hospital staff.

Exploring is a co-ed, career education program for high school and college students. Exploring will aid youth in planning for their future while helping them to develop leadership skills, increase community involvement and volunteerism, and take part in hands-on opportunities in specific career fields. Union Hospital will host its Exploring Post in Cecil County, to provide hands-on health care experiences that will guide youth to find their strengths, interests and passions.

  • Visitor Policy Change

    January 08, 2010

As of January 8th, we are lifting the H1N1 Visitation Policy.

We will resume enforcement of our Visitors Policy AG-280. If you are not familiar with the policy please review, it can be found on the Intranet under Policies & Procedures – Administrative Policies – 2 Admin/General.

Some of the key general guidelines (several units, i.e. ICU, MIC & Mental Health have more specific regulations) outlined in policy AG-280 are:

    ·      Visiting hours are 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily.

    ·      There will be a limit of three visitors per patient. Exceptions may be made on a case by case basis.

    ·      All children must be in constant attendance and supervision of an adult.

    ·      Liberal visiting arrangements or restriction of visiting hours for families of patients with special needs may be arranged with the charge nurse, house supervisor, and/or manager of that department. These special needs may include patients that are children, confused, critically ill, or dying.

The above are only a few of the guidelines, I urge you to review and be familiar with the policy. This policy is designed to provide the restful environment our patients need, and also allows time for family and friends who are a part of the healing process to visit. With this in mind, it is up to all staff to support and enforce the Visitors Policy.

Please be aware that if flu activity goes on the rise again, we may re-establish the H1N1 visitation policy. We will keep you informed

If you have any questions please contact your department manager.

     Thank you.
