Story of the Week: February 9, 2012

Kim B. works in the Emergency Department as a Crisis Intervention Counselor. She is frequently willing to stay late to help provide excellent care for patients. A perfect example of this was the night of Tuesday, January 31st, when there was a complicated case involving a pediatric patient. Part of what made this complicated besides the patient's medical/psychologic issues was that custody issues also existed. Despite the fact that her shift ended at 11 pm that night, she stayed until after 2am to ensure that the issues of this patient were addressed. If she had not done this, the child would have been waiting in the Emergency Department until 8 am for the next Crisis Intervention Counselor. This act of staying late demonstrates Kim's dedication and compassion.
